The most timeless silhouette in sneaker history has been revamped for the upcoming Winter season. The Nike Special Field Air Force 1, or the Nike SF-AF1 combines classic flavor with a modern military aesthetic. Taking cues from Nike’s FSB series, this sneaker is nearly combat-ready. Draped in full grain leather, adjustable ankle straps, and ballistic nylon, the Nike SF-AF1 is far more functional than it’s 80’s counterpart.
Designed with tactical usage in mind, this creation has been met with mixed emotions. Wearers can detach the lower strap, repurposing it as a handle for an accompanying tote bag. Although nobody’s obligated to rock the tote, is Nike doing the MOST? Has the direction of their high-end products caused a shift in patronage amongst OG Sneakerheads or have they hit the nail on the head?
The most deceptive detail of the Nike SF-AF1 is the hidden pocket under the tongue to store a passport or other small items. In the promo video, someone was shown storing cash in this largely accessible pocket. The kicks will drop in 4 colorways; 2 Women's iterations and 2 Men’s. Retailing at $185 for Women and $200 for Men, each pair will include a military-inspired carry bag. The ladies are given the option of the Light Bone/Sail or Golden Beige/Linen makeover. As for the fellas, our choices are either the Faded Olive/Gum colorway or a classic Black/Gum edition.
Look for these to drop November 5th Via the Nike SNKRS APP at 10:00 AM EST. This could be the mark of a new era of winterized footwear.
