Nike Claims NBA Jersey Deal Starting in 2017

Earlier we reported that adidas and the NBA would end their run together as adidas would not look to extend their contract. With the jersey manufacturing contract up for grabs, Nike and Under Armour were in the running once again. Looks like the race is over.

Although they won't begin producing the jerseys until the 2017-18 NBA season, a decision has been made. Nike has already won the rights and the deal is hefty. It is reported to be worth a billion dollars for the length of eight years. The last deal in 2006, the NBA and adidas came together for a $400 million / 11 year contract. The previous deal was a 10 year Reebok deal. Currently, the adidas logo isn't seen on court but only on the replicas and swingman jerseys. This upcoming deal will allow Nike Swoosh to be seen.

It makes us question if that's when ads will be incorporated and show up onto the jerseys. This is nothing new as the US Olympic team suits up in the Swoosh apparel. From head to toe (Stance took over the new sock deal), Nike dresses the Olympians and a ton of colleges including the 2015 NCAA Champions, Duke.
